The pairs of socks are made in Nara, Japan and exceptionally comfortable. The secrets are the material and the traditional technique using 56 thick threads. The material is the mix of cotton and durable hemp both for the all-season and winter socks. The winter socks are warm and breathable at the same time because of the characteristic of the material. Made-in-Japan hemp is quite rare now, but it was very common in the past as the plant is strong and easy to grow. It is functional and sustainable. Hemp also carries the significance in the Japanese Shinto and has been used in the spiritual and religious contexts. The socks are made using vintage machines that are regularly maintained by the craftsmen as it is not possible to produce them using modern knitting machines. Each pair is made with a lot of care: One vintage machine can only produce 40 pairs a day, and the finishing is done by hand by skilled makers. The shape of the socks is based on ergonomics: It is perfectly designed for the best comfort when the wearer is standing. The elastic band is place around the ankle instead of the opening of the sock; the structure prevents the sock from slipping off. After you try these socks, you will never go back to the regular socks!
